Hello Davenport!

Theres two breweries close by in Davenport we wanted to try, so here we are at the Front Street Brewery 8 hours after leaving home. It's a small place close to the river with a nice sixer flight of a gold, hefe, pale ale, IPA, saison and a cherry ale. The cherry ale is clearly the standout brew. Cherry is a tough flavor to work with - too little and it's hard to taste, too much and you have cough syrup. It also tends to have a cumulative effect...so although it starts mild, it ends up like cough syrup. That's kind of what this was like. Good flavor, then overwhelming. Not the worst cherry brew we've had, though. The IPA is brewed with simcoe hops....which aren't this hop head's favorite...but it had nice floral overtones and was pretty smooth. We got to watch a good downpour....some guy left both sunroofs open in his land rover....kinda funny when he realized it. He dashed out across a busy street (think Frogger) to close them and no sooner than he made it back to his table it stopped raining.  Cheap entertainment. :-)
