Rain, wind, hail and a tornado watch. Yep, welcome to Michigan! We left home (Hillsboro, OH) around 10:00 this morning and hit a nice detour about an hour into the four and a half hour drive. It was a fun drive through the rural Ohio countryside. Then there was the "weather" which we knew was going to be an issue, but Terri navigated us around the nasty red blotches on the radar and we arrived safe and sound at the Dark Horse Brewery in Marshall, Michigan - about 45 mi west of KAlamazoo - at 3:45. Some of you may have seen a show about Dark Horse on some cable channel...they make syrup, fix Harley's, brew beer and who knows what else. They don't have flights, so we got a few tasters (in plastic shot glasses) and settled on their standard IPA and a special blueberry brew they made as a fundraiser for a friend. They also had what they called the SLASM - a dry hopped IPA which was pretty good. Our server was really friendly and chatted quite a while about the different small breweries in the area. He went to college in Kalamazoo and seemed pretty knowledgeable about the area brewery scene. Their special blueberry beer was awesome. We wanted to. Take a growler, but he said they didn't do growlers of it - something to do with it being a charity beer. But we had a small growler (squealer) he agreed to fill for the price of two pints which was fair. They have a really cool beer garden out back with a stage and outdoor bar. No on was there of course because it was Monday at 4:00 and raining, but it looked liked it could be pretty fun. As soon as my photos sync to the ipad I'll post a couple.
