The rains are gone, the sun is shining and it's a beautiful evening in John Deere city. That's Moline, IL for you city folks :-). We're grabbing a flight and a bite at Bent River Brewing Company just two blocks from the John Deere corporate headquarters. The flight here consisted of their blonde, pale ale, IPA and raspberry shandy. The standout here was the raspberry shandy. Nice, light raspberry flavor...very drinkable...great summer beer. The IPA was pretty good too...went very well with the pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich, ale cheese soup, onion rings and portobello fries. "Fries" is definitely an understatement here...those were the biggest mushroom slices we've ever seen! And yes, they were pretty awesome. It was all really good. Brian - you better get to work on a pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich recipe. Of course that would mean you'd have to learn how to toast bread.
Well, gonna finish the raspberry shandy and meander over and see if we can meet John. (Deer that is).
Oh...and ask us about the Mcgyver-like contraption the bartender had set up behind the bar. It sure looked like a "different kind of mouse trap". Literally. No. Not kidding.
